Martial Zen is an amazing place. The instructors are very welcoming and god with the students. Even on the days when my son doesn’t necessarily want to “go”, once he gets there, he is fine and has a great time. And he is learning so much. As is my husband. Zen Jitsu has nothing to do with religion, however, it was born from the common wisdom found in many of the worlds’ ancient traditions. It's rooted in human dignity, compassion and a belief in the fundamental goodness of all living beings. Paint a Zen Landscape in Charcoal. Welcome:
We live in a time like never before where science is now proving what ancient traditions have known to be true for thousands of years. A time in which we, as human beings, have more comforts and conveniences than ever before yet we are likely the least joyful generation in the history and because of it all we are burning the planet to the ground. There is a simple explanation for this... and there is a solution! This site is dedicated to those who want to learn to live by design, as opposed to by default! It is designed for those who want to make a difference in this world, with the understanding that true and meaningful change begins with action, and action can only happen in the now. Science is now proving that what we think we become and we must manage our thought processes or they will create toxic stress which will destroy us from the inside out. Although we cannot control our external circumstances, we always have the ability to control our inner mental and emotional processes, and our perception.
Through meditative practices, controlled breathing techniques and visualization we can learn to observe, train and repair our mind. Taking this one step further, science is now proving that practitioners can learn to self regulate many of the physiological processes that are happening within them. By doing so, down stream they are directly influencing, in a positive manner, the way their genes are being expressed. In addition they can rewire their brain and influence the process of brain remodeling which results in beneficial neuroplasticity. It’s important to understand that these practices are not a panacea and should not be considered a substitute for modern medicine. PCE is a form of self help and where necessary, should be used in tandem with modern medicine.
The History:
This journey started over 35 years ago when as a judo competitor my instructor taught me how to utilize meditation and visualization to manage my physical and mental processes, and how to channel my energy in order to to improve my competition skills. Now, 35+ years later, after traveling the world, conducting extensive research, participating in countless hours of visualization and meditative practices, and through exhaustive self-exploration, I’ve collected and developed a myriad of techniques and organized them into a method. A method, which I like to call my “Zen Jitsu”, which is loosely translated as “Techniques in the Art of Mindfulness”. In doing so, I took back my life, my health, my mind and my Joy. I like to think of Zen Jitsu as a multidisciplinary, evidence based, Mixed Martial Art for the mind which allows practitioners to train their mind and hack and reshape the neuroplastic brain. It’s the marriage of ancient wisdom, with modern medicine and science. Ultimately this method can help practitioners learn to live by design, as opposed to living by default, and rediscover their limitless nature.
Having been raised in a broken and abusive home, I discovered ways to apply these practices in order to cope with my turbulent and anxiety ridden inner world. Having begun my meditation practice as a judo competitor and coach in my teens and through college, I was quick to discover its’ innumerable benefits and thus my journey began. Now, 35+ years later, as a FM boarded ER physician I’ve travelled the world in search of answers. During this time, I’ve been fortunate to work in the inner city with the underserved and in jails, conduct HIV research in Africa, assisted in behavioral studies with dolphins in Hawaii, and have a clinic in Kenya.
Zen Jitsu consists of meditative practices, controlled breathing techniques and visualization skills which are utilized to help practitioners to train their mind and learn to self regulate their inner processes. At its’ core are the emerging discipline of physiocognitive engineering (PCE) and the science of neuroplasticity. I like to think of Zen Jitsu as a multidisciplinary, evidence based, Mixed Martial Art for the mind which allows practitioners to hack and shape the neuroplastic brain. It’s the marriage of ancient wisdom, with modern medicine and science. This method goes far beyond meditation and mindfulness. It can’t be found in an App and there is no “PCE For Dummies” format.
Zen Jitsu has nothing to do with religion, however, it was born from the common wisdom found in many of the worlds’ ancient traditions. It's rooted in human dignity, compassion and a belief in the fundamental goodness of all living beings. No exceptions. In the end, through these practices, we can conquer anxiety and rule our inner world. We can stop living our lives by default and start living by design. Let us all “first be the change that we wish to see in the world”.
Make 2021 the year that you “Train Your Mind and Rule Your World!”
